Ibuki - Udatsu wo ikeru

Flower artist Shogo Kariyazaki's flower exhibition is held at Yoshida-tei, Udatsu Street in Mima city in Tokushima until February 22, 2011.

Udatsu Street is one of the important cultural properties. You can know a very very old Japanese life style as same as Kyoto.

My favorite

Dodo-suko suko suko, dodo-suko suko suko (no meaning, hip-dance! hip-dance!), love chunyu (I'm injecting love to you!) - this is hot in Japan.

He is so funny. I wanna be injected love.

My galapagos

This is my cell phone. It gets galapagos syndrome (a high resolution camera, a passometer, a mobile wallet and a music player etc) as with most of Japanese cell phones.
The photo was taken and drawn graffiti like a "print club" with my galapagos. This is a typical symptom.

My galapagos has a good friend named "rirakkuma (relaxing bear)"

Rirakkuma does not only relax by its looking, It cleans the display of my galapagos using its back.

They are good partners, aren't they?

Fruits, vegetables and ikebana

Using five kinds of flower materials, I made an ikebana work in a radial form. I like daisy's vitamin color which seems to give me the power.

The little yellows are pappers not for eating but for ornamental purposes. Surprisingly, various fruits and vegetables such as pineapples, berries, pumpkins and cucumbers etc. are used in the ikebana world. In every ikebana exhibition I can see a work with fruits and vegetables. Do you think these are beautiful?

Honestly, I can not understand the beauty... so I interpret their usage in ikebana for expression of the uniqueness or naturalness. And for fun?

In my opinion, it is true that ikebana needs uniqueness or naturalness, but at the same time, or more than that, beauty is the most essential factor in ikebana arrangements and it should be never lacked.

Unfortunately, I have never met this kind of ikebana work which I am impressed with the beauty, and the work of the photo is also the same. This work might have naturalness, but are you impressed with its beauty? As for beauty, this work is weak...

In ikebana, everyone always seek some new style that no one have done before, and it can be said that this is one of the results. Innovation is necessary, but, don't you rethink whether this is innovation or not, ikebana people?

A walk in the calm

Isolated from town I went to Tairyuji, one of the 88 temple pligrimage of Shikoku. The temple is in the middle of a mountain, so I took a ropeway to get there.

Literally, another world was there - no people, no noise of the city.

Only cool air and pleasant calmness pervasived around greens with panoramatic view which we can never see in a town.

Full bloomed hydrangeas colored calmness modestly and orange of monk's clothes stood out against green.

Some ikebana trend

This is my work of the previous lesson. The work of the photo looks it has no movement, but actually it has. I failed to take photos again... I took them only from the top. I should take some photo technique lesson before taking an ikebana lesson...

Going back to my ikebana work, the flower combination can be said to be difficult. Usually a green material plays a role to connect between colorful flowers and help the move of a work to look circulated, so in this form some green material is always used, but this time, it isn't.

Instead of green material, flowers such as baby's breaths and see lavenders are used like yellow flowers in the photo as connecting flowers for circulating move. I heard that it is a trend not to use green materials.

The blow is retry without green materials at home. Strong color combination might be too much...

The simple is for summer.

It's really so hot and humid in Japan.

Flowers go rotten so quickly. Some flowers sometimes are not lively even before using. Summer is not welcomed for ikebana lovers.

This ikebana work is one of my favorites. The subject is a big leaf like a wing, yellow butterfly palm, and the leaves can provide various types of images because their stems are soft and whole of the leaf can be bowed easily. Expression by this green helps a whole work to give a move.

Flower combination of this work is simple and does not have colors so much. This is just as well in order not to be stuffy.

My motivation

A few days ago, I went taking an ikebana lesson and made my best work that I have ever done, but at the same time, I made a mistake - I forgot bringing my degital camera!!! Shoot!

I have never taken in-focus photos with my mobile phone's camera, but I had no choice at the time - I put all of my hope into my mobile phone's camera.

And...

Photos taken by my mobile phone were all out-of-focus in spite of my expectation. I think resolution of my mobile phone's camera is not so bad, but I always fail to take photos successfully. Maybe I am too unfamiliar with cameras. I want technique for taking good photos by any camera!

Instead of the photos, I upload my favorite works in some exhibitions.

I like various reds in the above photo, and a litte white and blue is a good color balance.
This above photo is gorgeous, isn't it? Many colors are used, but white is used for the biggest flowers, so the work is gorgeous but, I get the impression of coolness. Also, I like the blue vase - it's a good combination with flowers.

In the third photo, I like the upward forms like fans and the simmetry of main and sub works. I like the transparent, good color and good shape vases.
Fovorite works which someone else made always improve my motivation.

A spice of Japan blue

Blue flowers on the left side in the photo leave an impression on me. Is this indigo blue?

Yes, I think I can say so but this blue is not exactly indigo blue. The indigo blue must be much stronger like black. As I didn't know the exact name, I checked the color name by Japanese color sample book.

This blue is said to be "hanada-iro (sapphire blue)" and it is a pure blue created with a single indigo dye. I didn't know this name, but I often see this color in Japanese textiles, so I think the color is a representative color in Japanese textiles as well as indigo blue. When this color is used in ikebana, an ikebana work can be more Japanized.

The other flowers of the photo, pale pink spray carnations and pink roses, are western origins, so the blue is a little spice for Japan image. Also, color tones of these three flowers are similar and light, so this work has uniformity and gives an impression of cleanliness.

Upright work

This work is one of my favorite works, but is it too tall?

It might be... I like a large-scaled work.

This is very simple, but I think another color vase is good for this work like deep blue or silver, and it can make a different image of this work.

Like me, like him?

This form is called a "radial from." You can see it as a front view from both sides, from the frond side and the back side. The container in the photo is simple and shallow, but the radial form can be arranged in a tall vase. So I think this form has various arrangements and it can make various images.

In the photo, this looks beautiful, but at the same time, straightforward, and it gives me the impression of coolness.

Someone who looked at this work said "this is like you." Me? I don't know that is true, but it is said that personalities are reflected into works. In that means, you might know about me in this blog...???

This is my master's work, but unfortunately he is not like this, or just I don't know about real him very well? In fact, he might have this aspect in his deep subconscious, or he might be a romantic person.
